Sarah Sjöström (SWE) and Katinka Hosszu (HUN) both medaled at the FINA World Championships and will also start at the FINA Swimming World Cup 2013 in Berlin on 10/11 August. It is the second time, the 16-year-old Swede grabbed gold at World Championships after 2009. Hosszu got her second title at BCN2013 in women’s 200m IM. In 2009, the 24-year-old had also taken gold, just like Sjöström, but back then in the women’s 400m IM.
However, Sjöström won’t have a walk-over at the FINA Swimming World Cup, since there will be five BCN2013-finalists competing for the title in the women’s 100m butterfly: In addition to the Swede, World Champion in the women’s 100m freestyle of 2011, there will be Jeanette Ottesen Gray (Denmark/ ranked 4th in Barcelona), as well as Katerine Savard (CAN), Ilaria Bianchi (ITA), and Claire Donahue (USA), which ranked 6th through 8th at the FINA World Championships.
